A Place to Serve

make a difference in Lamar County

Ramps of Love

Barnesville First United Methodist Church provides temporary modular aluminum ramps to Lamar County residents. Ramps are usually installed for up to three months. This can get a family through a difficult period.

You don’t need to be member of the church to receive a ramp, or to serve in the ministry.

Contact the church office for more information or to join the ramp team.

ministry with

Friends at Home

The Friends at Home team gathers on Thursday mornings, and puts together a treat, flowers, or dessert for shut-ins. It’s more than delivering a sweet…these are times to chat and enjoy time together.

Not available on Thursday mornings? You can volunteer to visit at another time, with or without a goodie bag. Or you can provide cards, flowers, cookies, or magazines for the team to share.

How to Connect: Email or call the church office to say you're available to serve.

Christ caring for people through people

Stephen Minsters

Stephen Ministers provide one-to-one Christ-centered care to people experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, relocation, or separation due to military deployment. These compassionate people meet with a person each week for about an hour, for as long as there is a need. They listen, encourage, and provide support.

The Stephen Ministers have been through a substantial training program in preparation to “be there” for you. Stephen Ministry is confidential. The identity of those receiving care and all conversations are private. If you or someone you know could benefit from the confidential, one-to-one care and support of a Stephen Minister, please talk with one of our Stephen Leaders, Jan Sherwood and Fran Boggs.

...and more

Serving God through the church is one of the ways we grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. God can use something as simple as answering a phone or folding a bulletin to make others feel welcome, or to be fully present in worship.

It's never too late to offer to serve. Download and print the 2020 checklist with opportunities to serve, and drop this in the offering plate. Or send an email to the church office with how you want to join in. Trust that whenever you give your time, God will always do more than you expect.
